The Mysterious Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a hidden-object game based upon the popular novella by Robert Louis Stevenson. In the role of an investigator, you job is to solve the murders occurred down in the Soho district, and reveal the identity of the mysterious Mr. Hyde. Accompanied by a group of people, one of them Dr. Jekyll, you will undertake the investigation collecting clues about the murderer, while inquiring a number of characters along your way.
It all starts after the murder of Sir Danvers Carew, a member of Parliament, whose body is found in the dark alleys of the Soho district. The murderer left lots of clues, footsteps, fingerprints, bloodstains, and these will be the starting point of your investigation. Your job takes you through the most diverse locations of London, which the game recreates marvelously.
Preserving some names and facts of the novel, the story is told through dialogs that you maintain with the Constable, Dr. Jekyll, and some occasional character that appears in the scene.
The game mechanics is the typical one; you are presented with a scene where you need to locate a total of 20 story-related objects, and then look for a number of identical items, e.g. 10 fingerprints, 10 pieces of a letter. There are also mini games and puzzles, which are quite easy to solve and can be skipped after a few seconds.
Every time a scene starts, characters have a long conversation that provides a detailed account of the story so far. These dialogs are excessive and cannot be skipped. I think authors should have devised a different way of telling the storyline, or at least give players the option to deactivate dialogs, given that every detail of the plot can be read from the Journal.
Apart from that, I'd like to highlight the game's great artwork and soundtrack, which suit just perfectly the game mood and story.
